A Coastal Craic
A Land Down Under
Duration: 15 Days
7 - 21 March 2020
Australia is an incredible place to ride! It has a bit of everything, from the dusty outback to sublime, swooping curves in the mountains and coastal roads that run along the crystal waters of the Tasman and Coral Seas. This trip gives you a huge variety of tarmac to enjoy to the full including the wonderful roads through the Tamborine and Snowy Mountain ranges, the Queensland outback and the stunning Great Ocean Road down in the south. Wildlife is ever present with kangaroos and cockatoos never very far from the road. This trip includes bike rental, so all you need to do is fly in and your steed will be waiting for you…This is truly an adventure of a lifetime.
The trip is split into two halves, first heading down the coast, south from Sydney to Melbourne, taking in the Great Ocean Road and then turning back through the Snowy Mountains and back up to Sydney. We then head north along the glorious Putty Road (a biking must!) and into the dusty outback of New South Wales and Queensland. Here we will stop short of Brisbane and ride through the lush rainforest around Tamborine Mountain and then back down south, criss-crossing the wide open spaces of northern New South Wales.. We will take a well earned day off in the beautiful seaside town of Byron Bay and soak up some sunshine, sup a cold beer or two and cool off in the azure ocean.
Newly refreshed, we will head off to take in some more wild and unadulterated 'space' and some of Australia's best biking roads, enjoying a visit to the Hunter Valley wine region, before finally returning to the sublime sophistication of Sydney where we hand back the keys to our bikes and relax with the soft sand of Bondi Beach between our toes..
This trip will fill you with unforgettable moments and some amazing riding in this great land of red earth, shimmering heat, rainforests and deserts (not to mention the cricket!). Here in this uncompromising country, the people are tough but always welcoming and ready to offer a big smile and a cold beer, even to us pommes..! You might think that it is too far to go for a couple of weeks - well, it isn't as bad as you might think and when you get there...it is worth every air mile. You will love it!
We aim to leave in the morning at 8.00am and aim to be at our destination by 6.00pm in the evening. This equates to around 6 hours in the saddle - we typically ride for an hour and a half before a 20 minute break for coffee with a 1 hour stop for lunch and another break in the afternoon. We are definitely happy to stop to admire the view and for photo opportunities along the way.
Please note that you will need to arrive in Sydney the night before the trip begins at the latest
